Three years ago I, like most fit women across the country, had a dream of becoming a fitness model. With the encouragement of friends and family and my ambition to reach this goal, I began researching photographers on the internet to find one that would create images I was both proud of and presented me in the artistic manner that I envisioned.
I came across Bodysport.com owned by fitness industry photographer Terry Goodlad. I was very impressed by his photography as it was different than what I was seeing elsewhere. His talent is evident as he not only captures the grace and beauty of a fit, feminine physique in a classy and complimentary way; his images also possess such captivating emotional expression. |
Wanting to have an opportunity to work with Terry, I emailed him some of my photos and asked for a critique. After my first conversation with him I knew my work was cut out for me. He explained that modeling is a skill that needs to be practiced drawing a comparison to acting.
He said a good model not only looks attractive, but also has the ability to express a wide variety of emotions, communicating without words. In other words the model has to “sell” the shot. Capturing a great image requires professionalism and preparedness of both the photographer and the model. I was ecstatic when Terry agreed to book me for a shoot and before flying to Las Vegas, I did as he instructed and I practiced! |

Looking back at my first shoot I remember feeling so rewarded after seeing my images on his computer. Even more so I will never forget the myriad of emotions I experienced and continue to feel through all the mood and set changes of my shoots.
After 3 years of shooting with Terry, getting my first Cover and being published about 2 dozen times, in magazines such as Flex, American Curves, Planet Muscle and even Body Magazine in Sweden, I still sit and study my work and look for ways to improve my modeling skills as I await another chance to be in front of his camera. |
Modeling is a tremendous outlet for me as I am able to express my emotions telling a story with just one glance. Three years ago it was just a dream. Now when I see my photos published I am just as excited every time and feel very proud of what I have achieved through lots of hard work and determination.
I invite you to share my personal favorites and challenge you to not just “look” at the images but rather experience some very personal and honest moments in my life. In that sense, these are not just some pictures we shot, this is our artwork. |
